Department
The purpose of the Department of Illinois is to promote
the aims and purposes of the Marine Corps League by striving for the
establishment and proper conduct of Detachments in all communities of the State
of Illinois where the quantity of Marines residing therein are sufficient to
legally constitute a Detachment.
The Department of Illinois Marine Corps League Officers and Board of Trustees are there to provide guidance and assistance to all Detachments in the state. The committees, that are an integral part of the Department, work for the assistance to organizations that range from POW/MIA information and legislation to Veterans Affairs and Veterans Homes located in Illinois.

- I would encourage members to revisit the Uniform Code that National has on their website www.MCleague.org. It covers the proper wearing of the Uniform in all the different forms of dress. No, we are not a branch of the military and no, we won’t be court-marshaled if we wear it improperly, but we do want to be the “A. J. Squared away” that we took pride in oh, so many years ago. Some of the most prominent things that are visible are combining DOD and MCL medals (please one or the other), pins and other devices on our MCL covers (Eagle Globe and Anchor and information strips only) and wearing miniature medals on the informal red blazer. If you have access to the National website, take a few moments and review the code, it doesn’t take much to regain that “Dress Blues, Tennis Shoes and a Light Coat of Oil” look.
